Week 1: Introduction
Assignment #1: Create Research Journal/Process Blog | Bio/Profile/Intro
I'm Crystal and I'm a Visual Communication Design major graduating in August 2020. I'm a graphic designer well versed in a range of design disciplines including design research, print & digital marketing, and product strategy. My current concentration is in UX/UI research in emerging technologies. I'll be using this blog to document the process of my senior design project.
My virtues are grounded in my backgrounds in sociology, psychology, and philosophy and much of my work in focused in the ethics of digital design. However, my general aspiration is to make a lasting contribution to the larger society as a whole. I'm inspired by the processes of personal reflection and social healing, and I'm always looking to help and inspire others through my work. I'm an advocate for collective and collaborative growth and innovation. Nothing brings more joy to me than collaborating with people of different interests and backgrounds because I love to learn from others and watch how ideas from a diverse set of thinkers can evolve.
In my personal life, I love to be in nature and I love to create things. I get really (really) enthusiastic when I get to learn a new skill, concept or hobby. I play the guitar and piano and have recently picked up the hobbies of music production and gardening as well. Professionally, my vision is to work in the design industry for the first half of my life, then obtain a PhD in Philosophy in my later years.
For this class, I'm considering either completing my research on the ethics of emerging technologies, or to do a visual campaign to spread awareness on the information needed to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Hi Crystal! I love your introduction as I'm also heavily influenced by sociology and philosophy, however, I never thought about how they could tie into design until seeing your book project in the summer DES 325 class we took simultaneously; it was very interesting to see how you related those virtues to design. I would love to work with you and learn more about what influences your design work.

I'm inspired by your constant need and love for learning....that's a trait that will take you far and will only inspire you no matter what path you choose. ReplyDeleteHey Crystal nice to meet you. I liked how you said you want to work with people of different interests and backgrounds. Usually, people would prefer to work with people who have similar beliefs and ideas. But sometimes it is better to be exposed to different types of people in hopes of learning something new. I also love your background for your blog!

ReplyDeleteIt’s great to know that you are into UX and UI cause I am interested in that field too. I have my background in psychology too. I feel like coming from psychology can really help the designers to build that relationship with the users. In understanding where the users come from and what they want from the products or services. I am looking forward to seeing your design journey.
